Country music is three chords and the truth. ~ Harlan Howard

nice!!
Umm.. I think “When you say nothing at all” original by keith whitley should be on here, or at least put side by side with Alison Krauss–
Can I have all these songs dounloaded on to a disk
Hi Ray. As of now there is no download available for this Top 100 List. FYE Stores do have a service at their stores where you can pick individual songs to buy and download them onto one disk, pretty cool, there website is fye.com. You can also try Amazon.com, Walmart.com, eBay.com etc…
Ray, you can also go on Blubster which is a free sharing network and pick any song you wish to download and make your own CDs.
yeah….someone should be b***h slapped….how is alan jackson when the world stopped turning on here ahead of Johnny cash…when you think about it why is alan jackson on here at all? what a joke.
Hi Justin…you are allowed your opinion..this list will be updated soon and yes, I am a Johnny Cash fan too, he is listed five times on this list…thanks for your comment
Kenny Chesney… The Good Stuff? why is it not on here?
Alot of this is older stuff, i know its “all time hits” but you hardly ever hear any of them anymore! i think the list should be updated and with newer more up to date songs!
Moments by Emerson Drive!
amazing!
I want to say something to the kid who thinks Alan Jackson should not be on here,, He is a solid man like George Straight, who cares about life and people not just out to make a buck like these new age singers, who dont even play country music anymore. Alan has been around for over 20 years. I grew up running cattle with real cowboys,,when country music WAS country. Now its just city boy music, with city boys or BEACH boys singing ie; ‘Kenny Chesney’ for the other guy whos upset hes not on the top country singer list! The list is made up of REAL country singers and the reason you dont see your groups on there like ‘Emerson drive’ is because there not really country!
the list is top 100 of all time,so there is no need to modernize it. I agree with True County Girl on almost everything. Country today is not really country. It is more like pop music. You could never compare the Jake owen to Conway Twitty, or Willie Nelson, or any other of the country pioneers. Now as for why is Alan Jackson on here, this list was probably done by time spent on the charts and that song was a great song so it was not just thrown on here for no reason.Alan Jackson is one of the greatest country singers of all time.
I am totally in shock where is the frizeels hank williams,Merle Haggard,Willie Nelson, and top all you have Travis Tritt above paycheck. If you wont a true list go to guys that started it Earl Conley,John Conlee, Hank Jr. Merel,Willie, The frizells,Cahrlie Rich,Eddie Rabbit, and thats just off the top of my head. And what about chesney,Mcgraw. Man you havent a clue.
Your right Ryan, this list is the all time country hit songs, but the newest country performers have really made a dent in the modern music scene, and you will see an update soon of this list…….
Hi Steve, country has a long history, and the list is based on sales and the ability to stay on the charts, this will always be a list of top country songs that will change with time, but I think you are right when you say we have to respect the performers that put Country & Western on the map………
i have to agree with true country girl. the “country” music today..is okay, but its not like it was back then. whats up with taylor swift? huh. its just different. some of it, though i have to admit, is pretty good, but none of the little pop country.
….<3
No Brad Paisley! No Keith Urban! No Kenny Chesney! Something is wrong with that as all three of them have more than made their name in country music history with classics like Mud On The Tires, Making Memories of Us, and She’s Got It All among many others. The older artists are great and deserve respect, but these three current artists have more than earned their spot to be listed among the greats.
no randy travis? no aaron tippin? other than that, i like it. good work
i believe the list is perfect….i think that the country now days is nothing but people that went and bought a “po-dunk” cowboy hat and call themselves a cowboy….there should be more george strait, george jones, j-cash, travis tritt, and alan jackson….people now days just dont understand what COUNTRY really is…
what about chris ledoux… all i gotta say
Kenny Chesney Grandpa told me so, or The Good Stuff??!!!!! Come on!
Not havig Tim McGraw’s “Don’t Take The Girl” under minds the lists validity in my opinion.
i think that the song “thats how it still oughta be” by trent tomlinson should be on here just for the fact that the song is so true! i mean the world has changed majorly!
Alan J should not be on the list for when the world stopped turning just for the fact that he sings about not knowing the difference between Iran and Iraq, while we are at war with one of them. If you are that uneducated about international affairs, run for President, if worked for George W, or perhaps read a newspaper. It is a song about American ignorance that is insulting. Country artists should keep it to the topics that made people identify with the music. Those that make us think of lost love, drink, and song. Don’t sing of politics when you know nothing. Never understood why this song was even embraced. I was military and it is insulting.
To those who are saying “new” country isnt on the list, in order to really say that a song belongs on the list , i think it needs to stand the test of time. the songs that have come out in the last 5 years or so, wait another 10, if people still listen to them, then i can see them being on the list. See how it changed the country music world, i believe it is still to soon to tell.
rascal flatts are the best
the list is pretty good but where is the David Allan Coe and Chris Ledux and the Oak Ridge Boys???
u need some new songs. some that people have actually heard of!! you need to put some keith urban and kelli pickler and jason aldean!! thoes are some good songs.
It sounds like a lot of the people who have comments haven’t really listened to the older stuff. That is where people like Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban got the idea. If it wasn’t for the older music there wouldn’t be any of the new stuff. The older music tells how it is is, take a listen and you will get a history lesson.
Hey I like all the songs on here and understand how impossible it would be to please everyone with only a hundred songs. There is only like thousands of really great songs out there. I’m just putting in my two cents. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has some songs that could definately stand a chance here Fishing in the dark for especially. I had other sections but this comment is already longer than I wanted to get so that’ll be good for now.
im with the true country girl this new sh*t isnt country its more like here i made a song now give me my money
all this s**t is country, its country music and good songs.. maybe to you it isnt, but to other people it is.. so grow up.
for the one who insulted alan jackson’s song, it’s about love and faith, NOT politics. Think what you want, but there’s a reason why his song is on this list!
i agree with you alisa. that is a great song and apparently nobody thinks like you, whoever said the song was about politics, because its on this list with the greats. maybe people shouldn’t comment on these things if they dont even listen to the songs. hmmm
what about chris ledoux…. this cowboys hat.. come on now.. btw other than that this list kicks ass. gotta love good ol fashion country music =]
i think that there is nothing wrong with this top 100 list, at all !!!
THEY LEFT OUT A GREAT COUNTRY MUSIC ICON IN HANK WILLIAMS JR. ANYBODY THAT DONT THINK HANK JR. SHOULD NOT BE ON HERE IS CRAZY THE ONLY ARTIST IN THE WORLD TO HAVE 8 SONGS ON THE CHARTS AT ONE TIME NOT JUST ANYBODY CAN SAY THAT
HI
Boot Scootin Boogie and no NEON MOON?
and wheres HANK JR.- Whiskey bent and hell bound?
Help me out here.
i agree. where is hank williams jr?
I absolutley love that Doug Stone is on the list! He is one of my favorites, and I have always felt that he’s been underrated. I think that all of these songs are great. Yes, I feel that Country music has changed a lot but I think that it has evolved just as all of the music genres have, I like the classics and I enjoy the new stuff, too. And really…no one is forcing anyone to listen to it. If you don’t like it, turn it off, otherwise…quit whining. Again…LOVE the list.
Also, how friggin cool is it that Garth is like number 6? All these great country staples and then BAM. Garth. The man. A guy in our generation. I love that.
wheres all the good country singers like keith urban…luke bryan…justin moore…this muzic is good but not everyone knows who they are..and yall peoples that keep puttin down taylor swift need to chill…yea not all her songs are country but if yall hate her and her music so much y do yall even care what she does…she the one makin the money not u…so back off and stop complain about wat doesnt concern u…
How does alabama Mountain Music NOT make the top 5??? or the list period? Where is country boy can survive? DAVID ALLEN COE Call me by my name? This list is complete CRAP this was not done by a TRUE country fan. Way to go POPuntry people BOOO to this list!
This sad list from CMT is already full of dust with its homage to forgotten 90′s acts like Lorre Morgans ‘ Something In Red’ at the expense of true classics like Bobbie Gentry’s ‘ Ode to Billie Joe’ which was one of a handfull of country songs to make Rolling Stones top 500 of all time.
wheres country boy can survive, chris ledoux, king george should be on more
hank williams jr???? come on now people!! HE HAS TO BE on here! ain’t no way Reba is better than HANK WILLIAMS JR. there just ain’t no way in hell!!
ohhh also where is chris ledoux?? I totally agree with thomas!!
I agree that this list is missing a few names. Jr., ledoux, etc. How about clint black? “Nothing’s News”… among others. Also I think that people that are die-hard country fans will know that a lot of these new acts with not survive the test of time. They’ll put out a few one-hit wonders that someone else wrote for them and we’ll forget their names in a couple years. Although taylor swift writes her songs, and while they’re catchy, she’s not singing country music. And whoever said Rascal Flatts was the greatest needs to be junk-punched…just saying.
umm where the **** is sweet home alabama ?
As far as I know, Fancy is by Bobbie Gentry. She is much more deserving of being in the top 100, and NOT Reba. Reba is a cool actress, but Bobbie Gentry is the real thing!!
now these are some real country songs not bad pop.
ok so,yes country music has changed…along with ALL other music. if it wasnt for the “originals” where would we be today..prolly without music. and i agree taylor swift could improve on her music…it prolly should just stay on the disney channel for that matter but none-the-less, she is talented..and better at singing than i am. but whose to say that older is better? for instance i it was rap..cypresshill–classic, however lil wayne is WAYYY more talented…but having taylor swift rap? i mean really?…is that even logical. original and talented are like black and white…just sayin.
Alan Jackson is one of the best, but even at my age, 18, I think Johnny Cash, George Jones, Eddie Rabbit and other musicians like them should be on here more. They make up most of my music collection, not this new stuff that is out. They are what country music really is made of. I think this list should be revised, and actually thought through. There are a lot of great songs on here that are not even mentioned on the list, let alone anywhere else anymore.
LOVE this list! I am so glad that the classics are still included in the Top 100! I grew up listening to most of the songs on this list and I am VERY proud that the list isn’t made up of only NEW songs.
I agree with Rich Warne, you cant leave the “perfect country and western song” (call me by my name-David Allen Coe) off of the list. And why the heck are the Dixie Chicks on this list.
Where the hell is Brad Paisly? I’m dissapointed /:
as people evolve music will evolve if music didn’t change we would get sick of it cause it would all be the same.and just because there may be a song thats not on here or you don’t like another singer doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be on the top 100. the meaning of MUSIC – I AM HERE.
