Country Music Shines Through At The 2009 American Music Awards

After coming off her award as the Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Awards, Taylor Swift has more awards to put into her trophy case after winning the top prize in the Artist of the Year category.

Taylor was also awarded the favorite female artist award for Country and Rock/Pop. The teen sensation also captured the top position for the favorite adult contemporary artist which is kind of a surprise, even though her hit single “White Horse” was a favorite among her older fans, this is usually given to the top selling performer outside of the normal pop music crowd.

Her Fearless album was voted favorite country album. Unfortunately the 19 year old country songwriter was in England getting ready for her performance at the sold out Wembley Stadium. Taylor was waiting for results of the awards show and was able to make live quick speeches as the night went along.

Keith Urban, performed his song “Kiss A Girl” and was named as the favorite male country artist, Carrie Underwood also performed her current hit “Cowboy Casanova” and was a crowd favorite.

Rascal Flatts won the favorite country band or duo award. The band thanked everyone after they took the stage for the fourth time in four years as the winner for this category.

Gloriana was named as the breakthrough artist of the year after all the critics assumed Lady Gaga would win.

This goes to show you the popularity of current group of top country artists, and the ability they have to crossover into the mainstream music award shows.

Rascal Flatts Concert Tickets Are Hard To Find

Rascal Flatts have been selling out shows wherever they go this summer, and most fans have found getting tickets for their concerts a tough going. Many have turned to scalpers or online brokers to get tickets to see the popular country artist. It does not hurt that they have a top country song with – Summer Nights - or the fact that they have also teamed up with Darius Rucker whom has the current #1 country song with – Alright as of August 8th.

Rascal Flatts Tops Country Song Charts

Country songwriters Rascal Flatts have jumped to the #1 position on the Country Top 20 chart with the hit single – Here Comes Goodbye. The top country song artists also have the honor of having the #1 Album – Unstoppable – in all of music, and in second place is Miley Cyrus with the Hannah Montana movie soundtrack.

Rascal Flatts has a long tour ahead of them this summer, and their opening act Jessica Simpson, has left her Nashville label, and whether she continues to record country music or not is yet to be seen, but this has put Rascal Flatts in an awkward position. The band has publicly stated that they still plan on using Jessica as the opening act on the Unstoppable tour, and that they support her fully on what ever decision she makes.

Country Stars to Play Charity Golf in Las Vegas

Most people don’t think of golf when they talk about Rascal Flatts, but the top country group will be the host when the 6th Annual Academy of Country Music Celebrity Golf Classic, also known as the Diane Holcomb Emergency Fund Golf Tournament, is played on Saturday April 4th.

This a chance for fans to play with their country music heroes, or to just watch the fun before the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas – Hosted by Reba McEntire on Sunday April 5th. The money from the celebrity golf tournament will go to offer immediate financial aid and support to members of the country music community who find themselves in need.

Some of the players from last year included Kix Brooks, Blake Shelton, Chuck Wicks and Bryan White. The golf course for the charity players will be the one and only TPC Las Vegas, this is where many of the current LPGA Tour PGA Tour players practice and play.

There are other events surrounding the tournament such as an award for ACM Artist of the Decade Special Honoring George Strait – This Academy honor is presented to on an artist only once every decade, and this year the top selling and brightest stars in the country music industry will be paying tribute to the “King of Country” George Strait. Only four other acts have received this accolade, including Marty Robbins in 1969, Loretta Lynn in 1979, Alabama in 1988 and Garth Brooks in 1998. After the award ceremony there is an impromptu get together of all the performers who play some music and maybe have a drink or two, this is always considered to be the fun time for the country music stars.

Jessica Simpson Hoping to Gain Country Fans

What is Jessica Simpson doing opening for Rascal Flatts? After making a name for herself in Pop music, and hanging out with the L.A. crowd, the Texas raised singer has returned to her country roots.

It will take sometime to gain the following she wants, but after showing her ability to fully embrace her part as Daisy Duke in convincing fashion in the The Dukes of Hazard movie, Jessica Simpson’s talent will make fans appreciate all she can offer, including singing Country songs.

The tour that Jessica is currently on will be making a sidetrip so that the star can take the podium at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Feb. 11 to announce the nominees for the 2009 Academy of Country Music Awards, this will be another step Jessica’s bid to be accepted by the country music community.
