Top Country Songs

I have to admit the first time I heard Red Solo Cup from Toby Keith the words and music did not overly impress me, but after a few tries the music and vocal hookline has stuck in my head.

Does this make it one of the best country songs of all time? probably not, yet it does have the advantage of being something everyone can relate with. It is #25 on the current country charts and climbing.

The red solo cup is a staple at any outdoor cookout and BBQ because of the volume of liquid (think beer) it can hold, and for the frugal people you can actually clean and reuse them. The song probably has helped sales go thru the roof (does Toby have a contract with Solo?).

If you have the pleasure of drinking while the song is playing, then you have to sing along, especially if you are holding one the most popular party drink cups in America.

In the unedited version of the Video of Red Solo Cup – Toby Keith is actually having a house party and it may look familiar to anyone who has participated in one.

Dolly Parton is one of the best known country singers, male or female across the world, and everyone knows her top country song – Jolene. The single from the album of the same name (Jolene) was the #1 song on the country billboard charts on Feburary 2nd, 1974.

Parton has said that the inspiration for the story was a tall, red-headed bank teller who Parton believed was flirting with her husband, and her husband’s apparent vulnerability to the teller’s charm as indicated by his sudden interest in making frequent trips to the bank. In her live performances of the song, Dolly often states she fought this woman tooth and nail for her husband. The name “Jolene” came from a beautiful little red-headed girl with green eyes who sought her autograph at a concert.

“ I said, what is your name? And she said, Jolene. And I said, well, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene. I said, that is pretty, I said, that sounds like a song. I’m going to write a song about that. ”

So I guess the story is don’t mess with Dolly or she will write a song about you. She celebrated her 45th wedding anniversary on May 30th, 2011 to Carl Thomas Dean and has said how proud she is to still be married to her first and only husband.

When a song gets covered by as many artists as Jolene has, then you know that it has found some type of common ground among singers and songwriters that they enjoy and want to in some small way pay respect to Dolly Parton.

In 2008 there was a movie that used the song as the inspiration for script. The movie Jolene was not released nationally until October of 2010. The movie trailer pretty much shows the whole plot.

After four albums and three recording companies the Eli Young Band has their first #1 top country song on the charts from November 12, 2011 with – Crazy Girl.

The video shows a breakout of a mental institute of the “Crazy Girl”, that turns out to be just a dream, but it really is just about how crazy and mixed up relationships can get and how much we will go thru to be with the ones we love.

It has been a long road for the band from Texas, but any time you can reach the top of the chart it means that you are reaching your audience with what they want to hear. The Eli Young Band’s current album Life At Best will be releasing more tracks in the future and if Crazy Girl is any indication you can expect some more hits from the band.

The highest they have been in the charts was #11 with – Always the Love Songs from the very popular Jet Black & Jealous album. Right now Edens Edge is on the road with Reba as part of the All the Women I Am Tour. The concerts are in support of her latest album release and includes a lineup of Canadian – Victoria Banks, The JaneDear Girls, Shana Stack Band, The Band Perry, Steel Magnolia and
Edens Edge.

The band from Arkansas is part of the Big Machine Records Group, and they currently have a rising song in the country charts with Amen.

They were lucky enough to open for Brad Paisley this Summer as part of his H20 tour and have slowly started to build a following.

Watching any band begin it’s climb through the Country Music ranks is always fun and entertaining. Edens Edge is just at the start of what could be something big, so we should all follow them to see just how far they travel.

When the show finally got on the road for the Bill Clinton Decade Of Difference concert at the Hollywood Bowl in L.A., the selection of bands were some of the topselling performers in Pop and Rock of the past and present.

Kenny Chesney was the lone country star to perform for the past president and he took a laid back approach with his set. Playing acoustic guitar the top country singer’s list included

Yahoo really made sure to let everyone about the event. Politics is a sure way to get everyone stired up, and not all people are big fans of the past President of the United States, but the former Arkanasas governor has really made an effort with his Bill Clinton Foundation to make a difference, and that is why stars like Kenny Chesney came to perform to show appreciation for his efforts.
