Who Deserves To Be Country Music’s Best New Artist?
Three very different young men comprise this year’s list of The Academy Of Country Music New Artist of the Year. The 47th annual awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 1 in Las Vegas. The very best country performers will be there and showing off their talents. This is a can’t miss awards show and these three musicians will be a big part of the event.
Scotty McCreery is easily the best-known of all the nominees, thanks to his success on the tenth season “American Idol.” McCreery won the season finale and went on to release a platinum-selling album, “Clear As Day,” which includes the Billboard chart hits “I Love You This Big” and “The Trouble with Girls.” McCreery’s baby face plus smooth baritone voice equals instant heartthrob, and he’s the artist most likely to go home with some new hardware for his mantle come April 1.
Brantley Gilbert is the dark horse, a Nashville outsider who released two albums on an independent label before signing to Valory Music for “Halfway to Heaven.” Gilbert is a little bit country but also a little bit rock-n-roll, bringing a rowdy redneck edge to his music. His single “Country Must Be Country Wide” received little airplay on traditional country stations but, thanks in large part to social media word of mouth, still reached number one on the Billboard country chart.
Hunter Hayes has been opening for Taylor Swift on the strength of his self-titled debut. Hayes made his mark in his native Louisiana as an accordionist before he was old enough to drink. Not just a pretty face, Hayes is dripping with talent and may be the most accomplished musician on the Best New Artist roster. He not only sang but played every instrument on his debut single “Storm Warning” and co-produced it, too.
