Mother Of Country Music – Maybelle Carter
The Woman who has been considered the Mother of Country Music - Maybelle Carter – will be having her 100th Birthday celebrated on May 10 at the Carter Family Fold, A.P. Carter Highway, Hiltons, Va. – for more information you can visit the Carter Family Website.
Modern and Past country guitarists pay homage to the lady who invented “scratch guitar”, she had the ability to play the rhythym and melody on the guitar, which was unheard of, and influenced many country artists from Chet Atkins to Earl Scruggs.
Maybelle’s first recordings at the historic 1927 Bristol Sessions, were with The Carter Family – as a trio that included her brother in-law A.P. Cater and his wife Sara. The band was well recieved, and sold over 300,000 records in their first three years, some consider them to be the first top country song recording stars.
Maybelle Carter’s History includes performances with many of Country Music’s top artists, and includes opening for Elvis Presley and her son in-law Johnny Cash, that’s right, she was the mother of June Carter, and she performed with her daughters for many years. If you research the story of Maybelle, you will find she touched the lives of many performers, and they all say she was the nicest lady they met, and she treated everyone like her own family, and was known to sew buttons and iron shirts for anyone who needed help.
